Faculty Lounge

Faculty Lounge

The Faculty Lounge is a designated Slack workspace to help faculty members stay connected while working remotely. 

Faculty members from the University Tenure Line and University Medical Line will be invited to the workspace where they may use Slack to discuss any topic of interest, for example, teaching virtual classes, the joys and challenges of working from home, childcare needs and issues, or other interests, like hobbies, recipes, exercise routines, etc. The Faculty Lounge provides an opportunity for informal engagement on a variety of topics. This space is intended to be shaped by faculty members' interests and will receive minimal administrative oversight by the Office of Faculty Development, Diversity and Engagement.

Participation Guidelines:

University Tenure Line and Medical Center Line faculty will receive an invitation to join the workspace via Slack. (For other affiliates interested in joining such a workspace, please contact your Dean's office to learn if this type of forum is available within your school.) 

Current Slack Users: You will receive a notification to add the Faculty Lounge workspace to your Slack account. 

New Slack Users: If you are not already a Slack user, please launch Stanford Slack in a web browser or by downloading the app to a computer or mobile device. Please refer to the resource guides below if you have technical support questions. Once your Slack account is set up, you will need to email facultydevelopment@stanford.edu to request an invitation in Slack for the Faculty Lounge workspace.

Connect with Others: Topics in the workspace will be organized by channel with each displaying separate feeds. Participants can request new channels be created in the workspace, by contacting facultydevelopment@stanford.edu.

The #2023new-faculty-channel has been created for the incoming faculty members of the 2023-24 academic year.

This workspace community has been created to share ideas, resources and information. Please be mindful of the following guidelines: 

  • Respect for Privacy: As people use this workspace to connect with others, sensitive information may be shared. Such information is intended for those participating and not for others outside of The Faculty Lounge. 
  • Respect for Others: Being kind to others and communicating with mutual respect is important when expressing opinions and engaging in a healthy debate. Curiosity and an open mind can help with understanding each other.
  • Work Information: Please do not share any HIPAA information or other confidential work-related details on this platform.
  • No Bullying or Hate Speech: The Faculty Lounge is a safe environment. Disrespectful or degrading comments regarding race, religion, culture, gender, identity or sexual orientation will not be tolerated.
  • No Promotions or Spam: Selling or marketing items for profit is prohibited in this community.
