IDEAL Provostial Fellows Annual Symposium
From Racialization to Resistance:
Identity, Marginalization, and Liberation
3rd Annual IDEAL Provostial Fellows Symposium
Thursday and Friday, October 17-18, 2024
This Symposium features a series of panels exploring power, race, and identity across different domains. One panel examines how cultural production, such as media and archives, represents racialization and national identity in Latin America and its diaspora, while fostering spaces for belonging and liberation. Another session highlights the critical link between rental housing and schools, focusing on how exclusionary policies shape the experiences of low-income and minoritized groups. A discussion on the racialization of language and identity among Asians and Asian Americans will explore the impact of diasporic contexts and the role of linguists in advocacy. Lastly, a panel on racism and health outcomes will provide insight into how structural racism in American medicine affects health across the life course and potential pathways to equity.
