Tenure Conversation with the Provost

Each year eligible pre-tenure faculty are invited to attend an annual Tenure Conversation event hosted by the Provost.  Deans, chairs and tenured faculty members are invited to speak about strategies for success on the career path towards tenure.

Mid-Career Faculty Development Workshop: Advancing to Full Professor

Every other year, OFDDE hosts a  workshop focusing on mid-career Faculty Development for associate professors, providing insights and strategies for career advancement, including the process and considerations for appointment to Full Professor. Making the Case: Preparing Your Dossier for Promotion to Full

This is a 4-part workshop offered through the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD). Each recorded workshop is 50 – 60 minutes in length. Free membership in NCFDD is available through the VPGE.  Please see this page for instructions on how to sign up for the free membership. Once you are a NCFDD member and have password access, you can access the 4-part workshop using this link

Promotion and Tenure

Stanford's policy and process related to promotions and tenure are described in the Faculty Handbook. Faculty are encouraged to check with their school for any specific policies and procedures. 

The Faculty Affairs division of the Provost's Office is responsible for implementation of University policy regarding appointments and promotions, salary setting, leaves, endowed chair appointments, appeals, and other matters of an academic nature.
